Prevention through Design (PtD) safe design from an Australian perspective.
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper aims to place current safe design activity in Australia into context by providing an overview of the regulatory environment, the history of safe design initiatives in Australia, and the influence of the National Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) strategy. The paper summarizes recent work in safe design policy undertaken at the national level in Australia. The paper sets out the Australian experience that designing for safety can reduce injuries and fatalities at work. Design solutions already exist for most problems, but the challenge is to effect attitudinal changes to ensure hazards and risks are designed out of products before they enter the workplace. Setting targets and strategies at the national level, for OHS in Australia, has assisted in maintaining the engagement of key stakeholders and making real improvements in the area of safe design.

Prevention through Design--introduction.
One of the best ways to prevent and control occupational injuries, illnesses, and fatalities is to qdesign outq or minimize hazards and risks early in the design process. The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) is leading a national initiative called Prevention through Design (PtD) to promote this concept and highlight its importance in all business decisions. Education, identified as one of the primary activities of the Prevention through Design (PtD) initiative, is a major factor needed to make PtD successful. The educational requirements vary within each sector. Therefore, an education strategy should be developed with an overall approach and set of resources, which is then tailored to each sector. The key themes of the PtD Education Functional Ar...

Prevention through Design (PtD) research is central to the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health's (NIOSH) national PtD initiative. Research is needed to support PtD efforts in all of the other three functional areas (Practice, Policy, and Education) and within all eight industry sectors. The PtD concept is new to many industry sectors. An understanding of how the PtD concept ca...

BACKGROUND Since the mid-1990 s, Prevention through Design (PtD) has become increasingly prevalent in the built environment. The acceptance of PtD has largely been due to the removal or reduction of risks during the execution phase of construction projects. European States have had the added impetus of national legislation. OBJECTIVE This paper analyzes the influence of European Union Directi...
